When a platform is authorised, customers usually notice nothing for a while and then notice four things.

## Change one: onboarding gets stricter

More documents, more questions, and updates requested from existing customers. This is the obligation arriving rather than the platform becoming difficult.

Existing users are frequently asked to re-verify, which generates complaints and is required.

## Change two: some services narrow

Permissions are activity-specific. A platform may stop offering something it previously did because the permission does not cover it.

This is the change least explained and most noticed.

## Change three: client asset handling becomes explicit

Terms are rewritten to reflect segregation rules, and what happens to your balance in an insolvency becomes a defined question rather than an open one.

This is the most valuable change and the least visible.

## Change four: there is somewhere to complain

A published procedure and a supervisor to escalate to. Nothing until you need it, and decisive when you do.

## What does not change

Pricing, usually. Compliance costs push in the other direction, so a newly licensed platform rarely gets cheaper.

Quality of service does not automatically improve either. A licence is a floor on conduct, not a guarantee of competence.

## The transition period

Messy. Re-verification requests, service changes, and support queues. Several months in my observation.

Worth sitting through rather than moving to an unsupervised venue to avoid the friction, which is the reaction I see most often and the wrong one.

## How to verify it actually happened

The register, with a date. Announcements of authorisation outnumber authorisations.

## What to check afterwards

That the permissions cover the services you use. [Somewhere the licence covers what the platform actually does](https://collectnexchange.com/compliance/cysec-licensed) is a real question with a public answer.

[A platform whose permissions are on the register](https://collectnexchange.com/) can be checked in two minutes, and [Collect & Exchange](https://collectnexchange.com/services/crypto-exchange) lists what it is authorised for rather than that it is authorised.
