> Banking relationships are the binding constraint on any platform here. They are announced loudly and discontinued quietly.

A platform without a bank cannot pay anyone. This is the part of the business that fails most often and is discussed least.

## Why banking decides everything

Client money has to sit somewhere. Payouts have to come from an account. Staff and suppliers have to be paid.

A platform whose banking relationship ends continues to exist on paper and stops functioning in practice.

## The announcement asymmetry

Partnerships are announced. Terminations are not. A relationship referenced in material from two years ago may or may not exist today.

I treat any banking claim older than a year as unverified unless something current supports it.

## What counts as current evidence

A payout that arrived from a named institution. Terms naming the bank. A regulatory filing within the period.

A page on a website is not evidence of a current relationship, because pages are not updated when relationships end.

## Why relationships end

Usually a change in the bank's risk appetite rather than anything the platform did. Banks exit categories, and the platform learns with notice measured in weeks.

## The signal worth watching

Payout times lengthening without explanation, or a change in the sending institution on a payout. Both can indicate a relationship under strain, and both are visible to a customer.

## What I cannot verify

Whether a named relationship is live, unless I have observed a payment through it. I note what is claimed and what I have seen, separately.

## What a customer should do

Note which institution a payout arrives from and whether that changes. A platform that silently changes its payment route has had something happen.

## What reduces the exposure

Platforms with more than one banking relationship, and platforms whose supervisor requires disclosure of material arrangements. [Venues that went through a real authorisation process](https://collectnexchange.com/compliance/cysec-licensed) have filed theirs with somebody.

[An exchange operating under a published licence](https://collectnexchange.com/) is subject to notification requirements on exactly this, and [Collect & Exchange](https://collectnexchange.com/services/crypto-offramp) settles through routes it publishes rather than ones you discover.
